Is. 48:17-19
Ps. 1:1-2,3,4,6
Mt. 11:16-19   (Ps Wk II)

Mt 11,16-19 eHuman beings are stubborn and seem to have a knack for making very bad choices. God warned the people of Israel that he alone was their Redeemer, but they would have to follow his teachings.

This prophecy was given to the people in Babylonian exile, and God told them why they were there. He lamented that they paid scant attention to his commandments. They hid behind religious practices while ignoring justice, mercy, and righteousness. In our own time, it is very important that we heed God’s teachings and commandments and not just talk about it.

Some people will always find fault, especially when they criticize those whom God sends to teach and inspire us. They didn’t like John the Baptist — he was too strict and harsh — somewhat of a wild man. But some didn’t like Jesus either — they thought he was too lax and didn’t behave like a holy man should. Jesus laments that people are never satisfied. But that is the human way of evading responsibility. If the man or woman of God is not credible, then we don’t have to change our way of life! It is far more helpful to listen to the message with an open heart and mind, putting aside our own opinions and expectations. Then we can look within ourselves, and see if the message applies to us.

Lord, help me to be faithful to Your commandments.
